Take Flight: help 7th graders learn in Ecuador and Colombia

Please help support this year’s Take Flight trips that will be to Colombia and Ecuador, and will take place during the week of March 11th-19th.

Like last year, the theme of the trip to Colombia will be educational inequity. Travelers will spend the week visiting a variety of schools in Barranquilla and will complete a service project with the students and community members of Colegio Buen Consejo. The group will also visit tourist destinations around Cartagena and Santa Marta.

The trip to Ecuador will be science-based with a service learning component.  The  itinerary includes an academic exchange and service-learning project with local students; lots of science experiments at zero degrees latitude; possible visits to a glacier,  cloud forest, volcanic lake, cacao plantation, and butterfly garden; as well as an exploration of Quito, Ecuador's culturally-rich capital.

Previous years' blogs can be viewed at   http://icstakeflight.weebly.com/ .

Each travel group will consist of 16 seventh grade students.  We have begun our plan to teach the students how to personally raise funds. Parents have been organizing to help through bake sales, babysitting nights, and other grassroots efforts.

We need to raise $7,000 more to ensure that all students, regardless of economic level and/or ability to pay, are able to take part in this amazing experience. Help us raise the final $7,000 by March 4, 2017 so that all our students can Take Flight.
