Description and purpose of grant The Visual Arts Program at Coppell High School seeks a grant to replace ten aging Wacom Intuos tablets that have served our digital art program for over fifteen years. The current tablets are no longer supported by the manufacturer and have become unusable, hindering our ability to provide cutting-edge digital art education. We propose to acquire ten new Wacom Intuos Pro Creative Pen tablets to rejuvenate our digital art classes and continue fostering creativity, technical skill, and engagement among our students.

Our objectives include:

  • Implementing lessons that focus on advanced digital art techniques, including digital painting, vector graphics, and 3D modeling.
  • Helping students master the use of new tablet features and applying them to create professional-quality artwork.
  • Developing project-based assignments that require students to use the tablets to complete complex and multi-faceted art projects.
  • Fostering creativity, improving technical skills, and enhancing problem-solving abilities.
  • Enhancing teamwork, improving communication skills, and learning to integrate diverse ideas into cohesive artwork.

Alignment with CISD Values:

Enhanced Creative Instruction and Tools - The Wacom Intuos Pro tablets provide students with advanced digital art tools, featuring customizable settings and enhanced sensitivity for detailed, sophisticated artwork. The tablets support the latest industry-standard software, enabling modern, innovative teaching methods, live demonstrations, and real-time feedback for a more interactive learning experience.

Accessibility and Skill Development - The tablets are designed to accommodate diverse learning styles and physical abilities with customizable settings and an ergonomic design. They provide students of all skill levels exposure to industry-standard tools, helping them build technical and creative skills for future success. The personalized features allow tailored instruction to meet individual learning needs.

Fostering Relationships and Collaboration - With digital annotation tools and live feedback, teachers can offer personalized guidance, strengthening student-instructor relationships. The tablets also promote peer collaboration, enabling students to work together on digital art projects, fostering teamwork.

Increased Engagement and Community Connection - The tablets’ modern capabilities enhance student engagement, making art classes more exciting and motivating. Students can also use their skills for community art projects, contributing to local events and initiatives, building connections, and showcasing their creativity.

Implementation process: These new Wacom Intuos tablets will potentially benefit as many as 100 students currently enrolled in our art courses this year, as well as countless more students in the years to come.  After we acquire these new tablets and begin using them in the studio, we will evaluate the quality of student artwork based on creativity, technical skill, and adherence to project requirements.  We will use rubrics to assess the effectiveness and originality of digital art projects.  We will also assess students’ proficiency with the Wacom Intuos Pro tablets and associated software through practical evaluations and project reviews.  We will measure improvements in their ability to utilize advanced features and tools effectively.  We will track student engagement through participation rates, feedback surveys, and class observations and evaluate how the new tablets influence student enthusiasm and involvement in digital art classes.
