Description and purpose of grant:

Learners in a structured learning program struggle to show what they know in traditional methods. They benefit greatly from structured tasks that have a clear beginning and end and the use of physical items versus paper and pencil tasks. This grant will go towards materials to create basic skills and IEP goal aligned task boxes to help learners in my program develop independence and decrease prompt dependence, which is an important factor for success in adult life. 

This project aligns with the district values of Engagement & Redefining Success. 

Implementation process: 

Once supplies are ordered and received, they will be used to create 24 different taks boxes addressing the skills below:

• one step tasks such as "put in"

• fine motor development

• color, shape, letter, number, and item matching

• color, shape, letter, number, and item sorting

This project will impact 9 learners this year. Additionally, since they are created with durable materials, the boxes will last for years and positively impact many learners in future years. 

Looking at the future outcomes for individuals with disabilities, independence is a strong indicator of postsecondary success. The skills my elementary learners develop towards completing tasks without depending on staff prompting will serve them throughout their lives. 

Items you plan to purchase with grant money

In the event my grant is not fully funded, this is minimum amount I would need to get started on this project: 

$100 (to make 12 basic skills tasks)
