Purpose and Rationale: I am asking for 10 chairs with arm rests, which gives students with ADHD a defined space for them to be successful in their classroom, by being able to pay attention during teacher lessons, and complete their work indepdendetly with minimal prompting.
The objective is to have better classroom management for students with ADHD. We have a parent of a 2nd grader that shared her son has not had behavior issues this year due to his Virco chair and band.
These chairs relate to campus goals because they help students focus during daily lessons, istation monthly assessments, and district assessments such as MAP. Having these special chairs in the classroom helps support distict inititiatives such as Engagement, Great Teaching, Relationships, and Individual Success.
Strategy: We currently have 30 students on our Resource/Inclusion Special Education caseload, 8 students would benefit from having this special chair. There are two 504 students in 5th grade that would benefit form using this chair in their classroom.
External Resources: We purchased three of these chairs last year from Virco. Teachers continue to ask for them and report the chairs help their ADHD students remian focussed in class.
Evaluation Summary: Special Education students will be able to master their functional behavior IEP goals, and general education students will improve their conduct grades by one-two letters on their report card.
Estimated Completion Date: Decemeber 3, 2021
Items I plan to purchase with grant money: I plan to purchase 5 Virco 15" seat height with armrests for Kindergarten-3rd graders, and 5 Virco 18" seat height with armrests for 4th-5th graders, and elastic bands for feet fidgets.
The minimum amount I need to get started on this grant is $1,260.
