Each year, Sun Valley High School, under the leadership of the Student Council, joins together to raise $20,000 to support 20 families from our community. This is a tradition that spans more than 40 years and inspires our students to become leaders in community service. The administration chooses these families at our elementary feeder schools; counselors look for families who may be struggling a little more or are in financial crisis this year. Children are chosen from kindergarten through second grade and families are only allowed to receive this service only once.
Many times students who have received this service in elementary school come to Sun Valley and join Student Council just to participate in this event that had a huge impact in their past. They have been very open with sharing how much this event meant to their family in a time of financial need. We hope you will help us to reach more families and make a lasting impression on the community. Supporting our community is a primary objective of the Student Council and Sun Valley.
Students raise this money from many different sources. They conduct events such as Holidays in the Valley where families are invited to the school to participate in a special Holiday Celebration and collect donations. They conduct Student-Staff athletic contests! This year there will be a basketball competition! Students donate $3 to get out of class to watch the final competition! Championship game. They host movie nights where for a $5 donation, students will receive a drink and popcorn and get to watch holiday movie in the Spartan Center.
They also ask for donations from the community and the student body! This is where you come in!!! By donating, you help to guarantee a family in need gets what they need this holiday season!
On behalf of the Student Council and Sun Valley High School, thank you for your donation, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Best day (and tradition!) ever!
