Grade: 9th
Teacher Name: Bill Borowski/Amber Fragosa
Purpose and Rationale: We have had students studying hunger and creating a community garden over the past 2 years. They have the materials they need, location of the garden and the types of foods that they should grow based on numerous conversations with CISD food services, others in the district that have created a community garden, and CHS9 administration. They estimate around $4000 for completion of the project, and lost fund raising due to the onset of the pandemic. We will attempt to raise any funds not covered by a grant as is true with the food pantry that accompanies the garden.
Strategy: Students already have a feasible implementation plan. Once we get the garden functional, students will tend the garden as part of their service hours for our Career and Technical Student Organization -Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), and also each year we will do a sutainability project.
