Grade: 9th
Teacher Name: Bill Borowski/Amber Fragosa
Purpose and Rationale: Using service learning to address hunger in CISD. Our students will be making/sustaining a community garden with a food pantry to distribute food to families in our district in need.
Strategy: Students will be planning and implementing the service project (the community garden is in its 3rd year and has current Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen that have/will contribute)
External Resources: We have interviewed many schools in the district and their food services department and the type of food to grow, where the optimal placing of the food garden and sustainiability needs. We will continue this project on a yearly basis and want to add the food pantry option this year.
Evaluation Summary: Students will be producing a portfolio of their successful service projects using the IPARD process (Investigation, Planning, Action, Reflection, Celebration)
Estimated Completion Date: Depending on the pandemic, we plan on opening the food pantry in the spring. The community garden will be a larger/longer to complete task.
