Grade: 10-12 grades
Teacher Names: Dani Roseberry, Ryan Lininger, Jared Stansel
Description and purpose of grant: To create highly engaging Economics games and activities that raise student performance in AP, IB, and standard Economics courses and on tests. To obtain materials and supplies to increase student engagement and improve outcomes amongst all students in all educational settings and levels of Economics courses, including special populations (IEP, 504, EB populations) as well as the standard student population. Game playing is a proven strategy that includes a teaching method called total physical response (TPR). Games should be used to have students act out economic vocabulary and concepts and then debrief about activities.
Implementation process: This group grant will be split amongst the three Economics (AP, IB, & Standard) teachers to implement physical/ kinesthetic games that require students to use and apply Economic principles and terminology. The games will help all levels of students consolidate learning and reinforce lessons, so they can succeed in class and on their IB and AP exams. Additionally, these interactives will better support special populations (Sped, 504) using teaching methods based on Total Physical Response (TPR). We will also share resources to economize, however, we teach at the same time sometimes will need to use materials for the same lessons on the same days. We will assess the success of interactives by observing student performance on performance and summative assessments as well as IB, AP, and final classroom exams.
