Description and purpose of grant:
Recently, our program was generously gifted two older, but fully functional, cameras, along with supporting remote flash equipment. While these donations greatly enhance our resources, we currently lack lenses for the new cameras, one of our existing lenses is malfunctioning, and we are in need of a few additional lighting tools to fully utilize our equipment.
These tools will allow students to gain hands-on experience with modern photography techniques, including studio lighting, remote flash, and lens selection. By having access to reliable, professional equipment, students can complete assignments to a higher standard, develop a deeper understanding of photography, and build a stronger portfolio for opportunities after high school.
This grant supports Coppell ISD’s mission to provide authentic, innovative, and future-ready learning experiences by equipping students with professional-level photography tools. Updated lenses and lighting equipment will allow students to develop creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills, while also fostering engagement through hands-on, real-world learning. Investing in these resources will help Coppell High School strengthen its visual arts program and empower students to tell meaningful stories, build strong portfolios, and prepare for college and career success.
Implementation process:
The requested equipment will be integrated directly into daily instruction and student projects in the CHS Photography program. This year, 32 students enrolled in Photography will use the new lenses and lighting tools in assignments focused on portraiture, studio lighting, and creative storytelling. In addition, students in our AP 2D Design course will have access to this equipment to expand their portfolios with original photographic work, and members of our Photography Club will use the resources during after-school workshops and events. Altogether, more than 50 students will benefit from this grant in the current school year alone.
Beyond this year, the lenses and lighting equipment will remain part of our program for many years to come, supporting future cohorts of photography students. Because this equipment is durable and adaptable, it will serve as a long-term investment that strengthens our visual arts program, expands opportunities for student creativity, and enhances the quality of work students produce both in class and beyond. In this way, the grant will have a lasting impact on hundreds of students over time.
