Our Fremd family is raising money for the National Cambodian Heritage Museum & Killing Fields Memorial as it supports the survivors of the Cambodian genocide and their families living in the Chicagoland area.    

Our Viking money will go to outreach efforts dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Cambodian culture.   The museum’s Cultural and Healing Arts programs are designed to build community and education.   Their youth music program provides children with authentic Cambodian instruments, instruction, rehearsal space, and transportation so they can play together. The dance program teaches traditional Cambodian dancing, provides the dancers with cultural clothing, and organizes performance opportunities.  The museum also is committed to communicating with survivors of the Cambodian genocide living locally to provide them with resources needed to thrive.

The museum is a partner with The Cambodian Association of Illinois (CAI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, comprehensive social service organization. It was founded in 1976 by a group of Cambodian refugee volunteers responding to the needs of Cambodians resettling in Chicago. CAI provides social services for approximately 5,000 Cambodians in Illinois (3,000 in the Chicago metropolitan area), most of whom are Cambodian refugees or the children of refugees. CAI is the only nonprofit in the Chicago metropolitan area which provides bilingual programming to address the interrelated social and economic needs of the Cambodian American population.
