Our amazing students at Odom Elementary are all part of the AVID program because Odom is proud to be the AVID Showcase Elementary School for Austin ISD. AVID aims to close the opportunity gap for underserved students, who may have had less access to academic and social resources. We are a Title I campus, wherein 85.1% of our students are Economically Disadvantaged and 51.2% are English Language Learners. As a schoolwide AVID campus, we strengthen writing, reading comprehension, math, critical thinking, organization, and many interpersonal/social skills to prepare for the professional world and a fulfilling life.

One of THE MOST important aspects of the AVID program is going on field trips to College Campuses. Students that have experience on a college campus are statistically more likely to feel comfortable, at ease, and successfully complete a four-year degree. It is much easier to work toward your future when you can actually VISUALIZE that future. Your generous donation will help our hard working students to visualize their success!

Although field trips are some of THE MOST memorable experiences at school, they are also expensive:

• At $120 per local school bus, we would need $1,750 to take all 300 of our students on just ONE local field trip

• At $1700 per Charter Bus, we would need $4500 to take each grade level on ONE field trip out of Austin

• Lunch for ONE field trip costs about $360-$400

Odom Elementary is an AVID Showcase School for Austin ISD, which feeds into the only AVID National Demonstration Middle School in Austin. Families often choose Odom because they want their student in the AVID vertical team, where college readiness skills will be reinforced in Middle School and High School.
