Who We Are and What We Do:
Mustangs Organizing for Social Transformation (or M.O.S.T.) is a one-of-a-kind social justice club at Rolling Meadows High School. We organized last year's gun violence walk-out, we've hosted candidate forums, and last December we sent holiday cards to immigrant families in detention at the US-Mexican border. Our goal is to raise awareness about pressing social issues while empowering students to take concrete action to bring about social transformation!
About this fundraiser:
Every March (in honor of Women's History Month) M.O.S.T. partners with "Period - the Menstrual Movement" to create feminine hygiene care packages for distribution to financially strapped women at local shelters. Last year we raised over $1,000 and assembled 605 care packages that were distributed to women struggling to cover the cost of their period. This year we're at it again with the goal to create 750 such care packages.
How this helps students:
Over 35 students participated in our Period Care Package event last year. This year, students will watch the Oscar award winning documentary "Period. End of Sentence" before assembling the care packages. In this way, students will become more aware of issues affecting women in poverty and will immediately have the opportunity to do something about it. Beyond the fundraiser and care package event, we hope our messaging will also further destigmatize menstration in our school community.
You can join us!
Any donation you make will go entirely toward purchasing supplies - tampons, pads, paper bags - that will end up in the hands of a woman who will truly need them. Additionally, you'll be supporting students on their path to becoming the socially-engaged leaders of tomorrow! What's not to love about this project?
