We are taking on the dream of a  1:1 (one device per child) program at our school.   We plan to integrate cost effective convertible "2 in 1" touchscreen chromebooks that also run the recently integrated google play store to take advantage of the entire ecosystem of all android and chrome apps.  This project will provide crucial support for our school's recent Project Based Learning PBL initiative that is modeled and based in part on our teacher out of state field trips to other successful PBL schools. PBL is viewed as a model for classroom activity that shifts away from teacher-centered instruction and emphasizes real world based student-centered projects. 

Currently, the school only has access to one "cart" of traditional non-touchscreen laptops. This cart is shared across all 8 classrooms, thus hampering any true integration of technology into our daily and weekly teaching practices and pedagogy. For example, having an accessible, fast, easy to use touchscreen device like the Asus Flip in the classroom on a daily basis will radically empower the way teachers teach and students learn.  Student projects can be shared with other teachers, parents, and others who have a vested interest in the students' education. 

Our current device choice is the Acer Flip C100A which has the perfect form factor for our K-5 children. These devices will leverage our existing G Suite for Education account (placitaselementary.org) allowing each student and faculty member to have their own login while empowering the school itself to 'self-administer' its own chromebooks. These logins can be used on any of the chromebooks as well as their own devices at home or other non-chromebook devices at the school to create a seamless 'single sign on' experience.
