Grade: 11th (Including some 10th and 12th)
Teacher Name: Ernesto Soriano Rodriguez, AP Physics Team
Description and purpose of grant: We are hoping to obtain PASCO crash carts and tracks, that would allow for us to access more data-driven labs. The crash carts connect with data collecting software that the district already has, and allows for the students to make a multitude of measurements through built in sensors. Measurements like the speed of the carts, the force of impact when the carts collide, the change in the carts speed, amongst other things. Our physics classes lean heavily towards practical applications that require hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory work that can easily be satisfied with these crash carts that are proven to be versatile in their use.
Implementation process: With the number of PASCO carts and tracks we are hoping to obtain, we expect to use them in a variety of labs across several units such as: Constant Velocity Lab, Accelerated Motion Lab, Kinetic Friction Lab, Whirly-Gig Lab, and Collisions and Recoil Lab to name a few. Across our 13 sections of AP Physics classes with around 26 students in each section working in groups, we expect the PASCO carts and tracks to impact approximately 330 AP Physics students. With proper care and careful handling, these PASCO carts will serve their purpose in our classrooms for multiple years to come.
