We need your help to send 3 students to travel to Washington, D.C. during Spring Break 2017. The students are excited to visit our nation’s capital to learn about history, civics and science. A top priority for them is to see the new National Museum of African American History and Culture so they can learn about the history of their people. We also have plans to visit the National Mall and its many memorials, Arlington National Cemetery and several Smithsonian museums, inculding the National Air and Space Museum. Another stop on our itinerary is the National Zoo so students can see all the animals, including giant pandas, and learn about conservation. This will be a grand adventure and an excellent opportunity for all the students.
We are asking for donations because our need is great at LBJ Early College High School. We are a Title 1 school and approximately 78% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. The cost for each student to travel is $1,999. This is a large sum of money for most people, but it seems insurmountable to many of our students. Our goal is to help as many students as possible to share in this awesome educational experience.
We are asking for $1,500 per student through this fundraising campaign and students are expected to pay/fundraise the remaining $499. The cost of the trip includes airfare, hotel, transportation in Washington, D.C., and all of our entrance fees for museums, monuments and historical sites.
Our fundraising goal is large, but these students are worth every penny you spend to support them. Please use the link above to share our campaign with others!! Thank you for your support!!!
Note: Any funds collected beyond our goal will go toward future trips to Washington, D.C. for LBJ students.
Please contact Kristine Guzmán, the faculty sponsor for the trip if you have any questions at kristine.guzman@austinisd.org.
