For many AISD students and teachers, the absolute best experience of the year is marching in Austin’s annual Gay Pride Parade. It’s one of the most uplifting events a young LGBTQ person—and many not so young a person—can imagine.
AISD’S participation in the parade is an important part of the district’s “No Place for Hate” campaign, demonstrating to thousands of young people that the Austin school district is a welcoming place. The Superintendent and Austin ISD leadership are proud to march in the parade along with hundreds of our students.
In 2016, more than 400 AISD students and staff took part, and this year, we need your support to help us march again. Your donation will help us provide buses for students and band members to get to the parade, provide each student in the march his or her own “AISD Proud” shirt to wear, and pay the costs of the parade entry fee.
Your support means a great deal to the hundreds of students and teachers who will march to show their pride and support of an inclusive community, and to the thousands of viewers along the parade route who will be cheering when the AISD band and marchers go by.
If you have questions, please call Kevin Gillespie, the “AISD Proud” parade organizer, at 512-892-2221 or email him at Kgillespie1@austin.rr.com.
