My students are bright, resilient, and motivated. Through all the ups and downs of the last few years, they continue to show up every day eager to learn. I am amazed at the progress they have made so far this year, which is a credit to how hard they work in school.
Despite the increased academic pressure brought on by the pandemic, my students are still playful, funny, and silly. This trip will allow them a much-deserved opportunity to relax and play - in other words, to be kids. The lessons of The Outdoor School are beneficial to students in any circumstance, but there is no group of students more deserving of this experience than these fifth graders.
Fifth grade is a time of transition and self-discovery, and the activities that my students will participate in at The Outdoor School will help them shape their identities in incredibly positive ways. When students face their fears on the ropes course, or reach their goal on the climbing wall, it can change the way that they see themselves.
When students step outside of their comfort zones and learn new things about themselves, the impact can be life-changing. And by encouraging one another to do their best, my students will learn the value of community and supporting one another.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, students will get to have fun. This trip will leave them with lifelong memories and will be a ray of light in what has been a challenging time for all of us. Thank you for taking the time to read about my students, and for your support.
Go 5th grade!
