Grade: K-5 STEAM
Teacher Name: Meghan Hader
Description and purpose of grant: This project will provide learners with engaging, hands-on STEAM opportunities using LEGO® Education Science Kits (K–2 and 3–5) and ChompShop Saws. With LEGO Science lessons, learners will follow the 5E model to explore TEKS aligned topics in life, physical, earth, and space science while building problem solving projects that connect science to the real world. The lessons include built in assessments, fostering both curiosity and accountability.
The ChompShop saws will empower learners to independently and safely cut cardboard for engineering design challenges, unlocking creativity with smoother cuts and custom shapes. Together, these tools make science and engineering come alive for all learners.
Implementation process:
I will use the LEGO Education Science Kits to deliver hands-on lessons that engage learners in solving real-world problems through project-based learning.
The ChompShop Saws will provide learners with safe, child-friendly tools to cut and shape cardboard for their designs. Using these saws, learners will gain practical skills, build independence, and bring their creative ideas to life, combining engineering, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration in a safe and empowering way.
Items you plan to purchase with grant money
In the event my grant is not fully funded, this is minimum amount I would need to get started on this project: $4,390 which would fund the purchase of the classroom sets of the lego kits for both K-2 and 3-5.
