Be a part of Randolph Elementary School’s, “Reading with the Stars” and support reading this summer! Many of our students have no books to read over the summer. With your help, we can give them access to good books and prevent readers from regressing. Students who read during the summer gain reading skills, while those who do not often slide backward, falling victim to the summer slide.

Help us raise $8000 by June 30^th so we can provide every student in the 2^nd through 5^th grade with books to read over the summer. Your donation will go directly towards the purchase of fiction and non-fiction chapter books, picture books and related literary activities. Each book costs an average of $5.

Avid readers are higher achievers. When children have access to books, we empower them to develop a lifelong love for learning. Reading over the summer will benefit our students in the following ways: 

• Increase vocabulary, reading comprehension, and verbal fluency
• Prevent reading loss and help students retain what they’ve learned
• Boost student achievement in other areas
• Help Students be better prepared for the Fall

Reading over the summer will also help build excitement for our students to compete in the “Battle of the Books” competition on October 7, 2015. Battle of the Books is a reading incentive event that gives our students the opportunity to demonstrate their reading abilities and test their knowledge of books. Our first annual Battle of the Books competition last year was a huge success! The following are some student quotes from the event last year:

About Randolph Elementary School

We are a neighborhood school and the home of our Randolph Stars!  Randolph Elementary, a Title I school, opened its doors in 1947 and is named for Peyton Randolph, an important figure in Virginia history.  Students attending Randolph represent 41 different countries and 20 different languages.  The breadth of cultures and languages truly makes our school a United Nations of learning communities.
